Hi all, it sure has been a while. I've missed you.
Life really can get crazy and it's so easy to get caught up in other things. I have strayed away from the blog and from reading, to which I am so upset about. I got to a point recently where reading seemed like a chore and I fell completely unmotivated at the concept. I am back on track now, and should have tons of time to chat with all of you on great reads. Amidst all the craziness, I want to try and make more time for what I love- reading books and sharing them with all of you.
Everything that is happening in the world right now is scary and completely unheard of. Many are anxious and worried for their safety. I don't blame them. COVID-19 has caused for people to make so many big adjustments- working from home, and finding things to do with all of their extra time. In my situation, school has moved to online platforms and I am spending my days in jammies. I'll admit, my time adjusting has been a bit strange, but I am grateful for all the extra time to read.
I want to assure you that your anxiety and worry towards this "social pause" is absolutely valid. It is completely okay to be scared. If anything, please do send me a message, as I would love to chat with you. Getting your mind off things by getting lost in a wonderful book or keeping yourself busy in other ways may help ease the worry. I am here and I support you unconditionally.
I have created a list of some possible book related activities that will pass the time in quarantine:
1. Make bookmarks: Even as a young adult, arts and crafts are always enjoyable. Making bookmarks could be the best pastime. All you need is paper and markers. If you wanted to be more adventurous, you can find "bookmark" quotes on google and print them out. Regardless, making your own bookmarks allow for a reduction in boredom, but also a little personal touch to your favourite book.
2. Rearrange/Organize your bookshelf: This is one that I am currently doing. If your shelves appear cluttered, sitting down to move things around could actually prove to be quite satisfying and quite fun. I have started and came across so many titles that I forgot I had. It's a great way to reconnect with your books and remind yourself why you like them.
3. Book to movie marathon: Everyone says, "the book is always better than the movie." I agree, but in the context of being trapped in the house for weeks on end, a movie marathon would be quite fun. There are so many books turned into movies, that you could just spend you day watching all of them. A really good "book turned movie" is Crazy Rich Asians (and Henry Golding is a hottie, so that's a bonus). While this isn't totally book or reading related, comparing the books to their movies would definitely entertain me.
4. Digital/Virtual Book club: I am partaking in one of these right now and it's quite simple. Connect with some friends and pick a book that you'd all like to read. After every chapter, video chat with them and discuss things you liked or didn't like about the book. I really like this idea because it allows you to be social while also doing what you love with people you love. I don't think it could get much better than that.
5. Look through book catalogues: This is something I do a lot anyway, but it's just as entertaining each time. Go on any publisher's websites (even bookshop websites) and have a look through books that are going to be released or are very newly released and make a list of titles that may interest you. I love to do this, but I need to start limiting myself as I have no more room, but I suppose one cannot have too many books.
I really do hope these help. If you have other suggestions for me, let me know in the comments.
Stay safe my dears. This will be over soon! xx
