Everyone has their own reason for reading. Some do it to relax, some to it because they have to (shoutout to all the english students out there) and some read just because they like it. While I relate to some of these, my reasons for reading are a bit different.
I wanted to make this post to explain why reading means so much to me. I want to clue all of you into the reason why reading and books have pretty much taken over my life.
By now, it's pretty evident that I absolutely love books. I used to be stuck on one genre, but since starting this, I have been able to "broaden my horizons" and explore books that I never thought I would have. I've been really lucky to have publishers and authors send me copies of books to review as well, because it introduced me to different things. I feel like diversity, when it comes to books, is really really cool.
I am such a busy person and have so much going on in my life, so for me, sitting down with a book is the perfect way to unwind. I make myself a cup of tea, change into some pjs, put away the phone and I just get lost. I get myself so immersed in the story that I don't even realize how much time has passed. I mean, we all know the saying, "time flies when you're having fun."
I also read as a means of escape. Sometimes, reality can get to be a little too much and all we want to do is go somewhere else. That's the amazing thing about books---- they take you wherever you want to go. Right now, I am reading a book about Sherlock Holmes and his daughter Lucy James in 1890s London, and as I read, I travel there to help them with their cases. I just find that when someone needs a break from their life, a book can be great. You can be something you so badly wanna be and you can go anywhere you want to go.
I also pride myself on having a homemade library built in my bedroom. I love being surrounded by things that make me happy, and a lot of times when I am going through something, I get up and walk around the "library." I look at titles, read the descriptions, and just take a second to appreciate all of them. I love my books so much, I see them as my friends sometimes. That's another thing, I get so emotionally invested in the characters when it comes to books. I may or may not insert myself into relationships and character's lives.... (Eleanor, Park, and Chief Librarian--- coming soon) and I get so involved in the story. I love going on a journey as I read. After all, "the journey of a lifetime starts with turning a page."
To sum this all up, reading means so much to me and it helps me in ways that may be different from others. All I have to say is that reading can be so helpful when it comes to relaxation and destressing. If you haven't tried it already, give it a go. You never know what you may find.
I love to read too!!
Thanks for sharing Chief Librarian!
